Regulation – a catalyst or inhibitor?

The regulatory environment is becoming more complex and the burden on business is building.

Across the globe, companies are facing a patchwork of new environmental, employee, cybersecurity and privacy directives and legislation often across multiple regions.

Our Risk & Resilience research findings reflect global business leaders’ concern as they attempt to comply with stricter reporting requirements across their business practices, a diverging set of rules across the globe and the prospect of more and more stringent red tape to come.

“Anti-puffery has become a very common theme, with companies overstating their cyber postures or their emissions and even their use of AI in their businesses.”

Jeremie Saada
Head of US Executive Risk at Beazley

Building resilience

With the pace of regulatory change accelerating particularly around ESG the need for enhanced resilience is clear.

Global businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions, are having to manage contrasting, and in some cases opposing, regulations.

The insurance industry is in a unique position to help executives navigate these challenges and avoid both financial penalties from regulators and reputational damage from the media.  We can draw on the insight we glean from claims, and other legal advisers to inform businesses on upcoming changes to regulation that could affect them and help them reallocate resources accordingly. With regulators looking to fact-check statements made by high-profile executives, the need for tangible evidence of well documented decision making and policies is greater than ever.
